In March, the “Dark Emu” is beginning to take shape early.
Here we can see the Carina Nebula above the head of the emu (the Coalsack nebula) and the Large Magellanic Cloud to the right. The LMC is another completely separate galaxy to our Milky Way, at around 50 kiloparsecs (≈160,000 light-years) from us… mind boggling, don’t you think?
This image was taken off the gravel road into the paddock behind the east end of the Monastery building, just over the Moore River East. We are looking down a row of olive trees just as the moon is about to break over the horizon.
