The Library Lecture and Studies Day are back! This year these two popular events are being organised by the Department of Archives, Collections and Libraries as a two-day event under the title ACL: A Closer Look.
The Library component on Friday October 29th will feature papers by Erica Persak (Executive Administrator, Kerry Stokes Collection), Dr David Wells (Manager of Collections, Curtin University Library), Bobbie Bruce (Librarian, Collections and Research Centre, WA Museum), and Lisa Wright (Librarian, Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions).
Saturday’s presentations will be given by Abbot Placid Spearritt Memorial Scholar Judith McGuinness, photographer and historian Jim Longbottom, former Dominican monk and student of architecture Dr John Challis and New Norcia’s Liturgist Fr Robert Nixon.
In addition, there will be a visit to the Monastery Library and a display in the monastery’s Music Room of the Stokes Collection’s Nuremberg Chronicle accompanied by rare books from the WA Museum and New Norcia Library. In the Museum and Art Gallery, a new exhibition, The cathedrals of New Norcia, will be open together with a showing of Jim Longbottom’s beautiful astrophotography work taken at New Norcia. New Norcia’s latest book The Letters of Santos Salvado 1869-1879, the result of recent Abbot Placid Spearritt Memorial Scholarship work, will also be on sale.
On Friday night, there will be a happy hour at the New Norcia Hostel before dinner. Then, to round things off, our old friends of many years from the Studies Launch, Très Classique, will give a concert at 3.00 on Saturday afternoon.
Accommodation in the Hostel, Guesthouse or Old Convent is $100 per room, which includes dinner.
Note: If you are planning on staying overnight, you must book your accommodation separately with the Guesthouse (9654 8002 or email@example.com.) It is strongly recommended you make your accommodation booking before paying for the day events in order to avoid disappointment.
