The story of Benedictine monasticism has been punctuated and impelled by frequent reformation and renewal movements, normally aspiring to return more faithfully to the original spirit of the Rule of St. Benedict. This year’s Institute Day will examine the lives and works of several prominent reformers within the Benedictine tradition, include Smaragdus of Saint-Mihiel, St. Bernard of Clairvaux, St. Celestine V and others. It will afford a fascinating insight into the concerns and challenges they addressed, and their respective innovations and responses. It is hoped that this will generate some constructive reflection and discussion on the future direction of monasticism at this critical juncture in history.

Presenters for the day include Fr. Joseph Chua, ocso (Novice Master at Tarrawarra Abbey), Fr. Robert Nixon, osb (Director, NNIBS), Fr. David Barry, osb, and Dom Paul Forster, osb.

As usual a fine lunch, together with morning and afternoon tea, are include in the day.
